1962 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-032

Description

Sharing the same general doubling profile as its catalog neighbors yet produced from a distinct die, the 1962 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDO-032 exhibits a light spread on the last T of IN GOD WE TRUST and the numeral 2 of the date. Although the affected design elements match those of DDO-031 and DDO-033, each variety traces to a separate working die that received its own doubled hub impression, and the specific die markers, wear patterns, and stage progressions differ from one die to the next. This distinction is important for attribution: two coins showing identical doubling zones are not necessarily the same variety unless their die-specific characteristics also align. DDO-032 carries VarietyVista catalog designations UVC-2058 and DMR-056 and was struck as a business-strike issue at the Philadelphia Mint during 1962, when the facility coined more than 606 million cents in the last production year before tin was removed from the alloy in 1963. The involvement of both the motto and the date provides collectors with two independent verification points — a useful redundancy that strengthens the attribution, since finding consistent spread direction and magnitude on both the T and the 2 effectively rules out die deterioration doubling or strike doubling, neither of which would produce coordinated displacement across widely separated design features.
