Description
Sharing the prestigious Cherrypickers' Guide listing FS-01-1960-801 with its Small Date proof sibling, WDDR-017 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Proof Large Date carries the same strong Class II spread towards the center that makes this the flagship DDR variety of the 1960 proof series. The doubling is prominently visible on the right Memorial base, right cornice, and right side of the roof, with strong displacement also showing on the letters of ONE CENT. A lesser centerward spread affects USA, the left base, the left cornice, the left side of the roof, and the designer's initials. Tripling is observable on some letters, particularly the CA in AMERICA, indicating that the die received at least three hub impressions with measurable misalignment. Cross-referenced as CONECA 9-R-II and cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 1¢ Pr WDDR-017, the Large Date proof designation places this die in the initial proof production phase before the mid-year hub change. The obverse carries a short die gouge on the bottom front of the bust, and the reverse shows a die scratch near the center of the 1st Memorial bay running south-southwest to north-northeast. The Cherrypickers' Guide inclusion means this variety is tracked by a wide audience of collectors beyond dedicated variety specialists, ensuring consistent demand. With proof die life limited to approximately 3,000 impressions, both hub variants of this variety merit premium consideration.
