1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-014
Error
Description
WDDR-014 on the 1960 Proof Jefferson Nickel is cross-referenced as CONECA 14-R-II and was struck with polished dies at the Philadelphia Mint. The variety is a Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling with a particularly notable diagnostic: tripling — three distinct impressions — shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM with a spread toward the center, making WDDR-014 one of the few Proof Jefferson Nickel reverse varieties to exhibit full tripling on the motto rather than simple doubling. Alongside the tripled motto, doubling shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS, MONTICELLO, and both sides of the Monticello building. Die markers confirm attribution on both sides: on the obverse, a die gouge is visible under the O of GOD; on the reverse, a heavy die gouge appears above and between the E and P of E PLURIBUS, a vertical die gouge sits to the left of the lower E of UNITED, and a die scratch runs over the upper U. Cross-reference: CONECA 14-R-II; Wexler WDDR-014, 1960 Proof Jefferson Nickel.
