Description

The 1960 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1960 Proof Jefferson Nickel, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Interesting curling raised line in hair above back of neck.  It looks like it was struck through string or wire but is raised.  Perhaps the earlier strike through wire left an impression in the die.  Short vertical die gouge inside left center of W of WE. Reverse: None noted. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-II-C.
