1960-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-004
Error
Description
Concentrated on a single design element, DDO-004 shows medium spread west on the 0 of the date on the 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent. While many doubled die obverses affect multiple inscriptions simultaneously, DDO-004's localized doubling on the terminal zero of the date makes it a subtle but collectible variety. The obverse is ODV-023 (Large Date), linking it to the hub design used before the mid-year switch to the Small Date subtype that generated so much collector excitement. Die markers UVC-1989 and DMR-145 provide the attribution fingerprint. The westward spread direction on the 0 indicates the second hub impression was offset slightly to the left relative to the first, producing separation visible on the left side of the digit. Collectors should examine the date under at least 10x magnification, comparing the 0 against the same digit on normal 1960-D Large Date cents to confirm the doubled contour. The 1960 Large Date / Small Date distinction remains one of the most recognized hub varieties in the entire Lincoln cent series, adding historical context to any error variety found on these coins.
