1959 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007
Error
Description
Seventh in the doubled die reverse catalog for the 1959 Roosevelt Dime, DDR-007 exhibits medium extra thickness on all outer lettering and design elements — a spread pattern where the secondary hub impression closely overlaps the primary, widening letter strokes rather than producing clearly separated doubled images. The scope is broad: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, and E PLURIBUS UNUM each display thickened profiles, along with the torch, olive branch, and oak branch. Three die stages document the die's service life. Stage A is cataloged as Early Die State though unconfirmed, while Stage B at Mid Die State likewise awaits confirmation. Stage C, the terminal stage, shows both reverse and obverse in Late Die State — the confirmed endpoint where accumulated die wear has softened finer detail. The 1959 Roosevelt Dime was struck at Philadelphia in 90% silver, the final year before clad composition arrived in 1965. Medium classification on a silver-composition dime is notable because the softer planchet material can render extra thickness more visibly than copper-nickel clad.
