1959-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
ErrorDescription
Identified by the Wexler Team as WDDO-001, this 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent shows extra thickness on the date, IN GOD WE TRUST, and LIBERTY—covering the three primary obverse legends. Denver's first-year Memorial cent production saw considerable die variety activity, and WDDO-001 stands as the lead listing for the mint mark. Light die scratches running mostly southwest to northeast through the date serve as the primary obverse diagnostic, while the reverse carries no significant die markers. The combination of widespread obverse doubling and clear die-state evidence makes this variety relatively straightforward to authenticate. Collectors pursuing a complete census of 1959-D doubled die obverses will recognize WDDO-001 as the foundational piece in the series.
