1957 Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

1957 WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1957 Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Every letter shows extra thickness, strongest on the right side; unlike WDDR-001, the leaves show little visible separation. The obverse has many crisscrossing scratches. Curving E/W scratches sit under IN, a strong NE/SW scratch lies behind the head, and a strong scratch (Wexler asks whether it may be a die crack) joins the nose and LIBERTY's L. Two strong scratches cross TY in LIBERTY. On the reverse, strong scratches run from PLURIBUS's first U to the N in ONE, and strong NE/SW scratches sit within the O in ONE. Scratches extend SW off the oak stem, a squiggly scratch lies left of the upper oak leaf cluster, and a gouge sits between the small dot and the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM. John A.
