1957 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1957-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1957-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows on LIBERTY's ERTY, on IN GOD, and on the 19 of the date. On the obverse, a curving SW/NE scratch crosses the collar and neck; Wexler sees it on all three stages. Stage B adds a small gouge (dot) right of the upper lip, and Stage C a chip inside the top of the 9. Reverse Stage A has a scratch running SSW from the rim, right of the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM, to the top of CENT's C, and many N/S scratches across the reverse. On Stage B the scratch from the rim can no longer be seen and the others are very weak. Stage C adds a gouge (dot) left of the right wheat ear and a crack down the lower half of CENT's T. James C. Moreland submitted Stage A, John A. Wexler Stage B and Bill Fivaz Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
