1956 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

Cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-001, WDDR-002 of the 1956 Washington quarter shows extra thickness on USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, and the lower leaves and branches. The broad distribution of doubling across multiple elements indicates substantial hub misalignment during die production. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge between the lower R and T of LIBERTY and a die gouge right of the center of the T in LIBERTY. The reverse was examined in very late die state, revealing a die crack or gouge running southeast from the bottom right R of QUARTER to the rim.
