Description

DDR-003 is a Proof Roosevelt Dime doubled die reverse attributed by VarietyVista, exhibiting a medium spread across UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with a lighter spread visible on ONE DIME and UNUM. The doubling is catalogued under die pair UVC-281, DMR-010 and progressed through documented die states. In Stage A — an Early Die State — a strong die gouge is present on the N of UNITED, and a die scratch runs east-northeast from a dimple toward the ear; this stage is confirmed as EDS. Stage B shows both the reverse and obverse at a Middle Die State, with the previously noted markers present in evolved form. The 1956 Proof Roosevelt Dime was struck in 90% silver at the Philadelphia Mint for inclusion in annual proof sets, with dies finished to a higher standard than circulation strikes. The medium spread on the legend text makes this a rewarding variety to locate in proof sets of the period. Cross-reference: VarietyVista DDR-003, die pair UVC-281, DMR-010.
