1956 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

Identified by an extra eyelid showing to the south of Lincoln's normal eyelid, the 1956 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-007 documents hub displacement concentrated on the fine facial detail of Victor David Brenner's portrait. The southward extra eyelid indicates the secondary hub impression shifted downward relative to the primary, doubling the delicate eyelid contour below its normal position. Multiple obverse die markers strengthen attribution: a die scratch runs east from the D in GOD, and additional die scratches run northwest-to-southeast in front of Lincoln's nose and mouth — the latter providing a quick screening tool before examining the subtle eyelid doubling. No reverse die markers have been noted. This Wexler Team attribution carries the cross-reference "1956 1-cent WDDO-007," with no known cross-references to other systems. This Philadelphia Mint regular strike was produced in bronze — 95% copper with 5% tin and zinc — at 3.11 grams. The 1956 date falls in the final years of the Wheat Cent reverse before its 1959 replacement.
