1956 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1956 WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1956 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. IN GOD WE TRUST shows a close spread toward the center. Obverse markers: a gouge under the 5 of the date; a strong scratch heading NNE from the upper chin; nearly horizontal scratches north of the 1; and many heavy cracks all through the hair. The reverse is also a doubled die, which Wexler's doubled die files number 1956 1¢ WDDR-003: the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots, both upper wheat ears and both stems show extra thickness. Reverse markers: a small gouge touching the bottom center of the diagonal of ONE's N; a small gouge touching the top center of the diagonal of CENT's N; many NNW-SSE scratches through the letters of CENT; and a large chip on the lower T of CENT. James C. Moreland submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-II.
