1956-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-006

Description

Representing the late-die-state counterpart among the trio of 1956-D eyelid doubled dies, DDO-006 shares the same diagnostic feature as DDO-003 and DDO-008 — strong spread south on Lincoln's eyelid — but its confirmed specimens come exclusively from Late Die State, where both obverse and reverse display advanced wear, die fatigue lines, and softened design details. This late-state confirmation contrasts with DDO-003, which is confirmed only in Early Die State, offering collectors a comparison of how deterioration affects eyelid doubling across different working dies. Early and Mid Die State examples of DDO-006 remain unconfirmed. Like its siblings, DDO-006 was prepared from the Solid 6 hub, where the date's numeral 6 appears filled rather than having an open loop. Die markers UVC-1885 and DMR-027 distinguish this working die from DDO-003 (UVC-1882/DMR-024) and DDO-008 (UVC-1887/DMR-029). The 1956-D was struck at the Denver Mint in bronze composition. Target Lincoln's eyelid under 7x magnification, noting that Late Die State specimens may show slightly softer doubling alongside surface deterioration markers.
