Description
1955 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1955 proof Franklin half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center shows on LIBERTY, the 55 of the date and Franklin's nose; IN GOD WE TRUST's letters show it slightly. On the obverse, a small gouge (dot) sits at the bottom center of LIBERTY's E. On the reverse, STATES's second S has a scratch heading ENE from its lower right, and on the yoke's lower left end is a SW-to-NE scratch. A SSW-to-NNE scratch crosses the lower feather immediately left of the eagle's right leg (the viewer's left), and many fine scratches cover the bell and the yoke. Brooks Childs submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
