1955 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

Obverse indicators include a die scratch running south-southeast from the bottom of the back of the head to the top of the shoulder, die scratches running east-northeast from the top of the T and Y in LIBERTY, a die scratch from the bottom of the chin to the vest left of the bottom of the 1, and a die scratch running north-northeast from the upper front of the forehead just right of the front curl of hair. No distinctive reverse markers have been noted. Cross-referenced as CONECA 10-O-V (indicating a Class V Pivoted Hub mechanism) and Coppercoins 1955P-1DO-008, this variety is attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 1955 1¢ WDDO-009. The Class V pivot mechanism produces rotational displacement distinct from the Class I rotated hub doubling that created the iconic 1955 DDO.
