1955 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1955 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1955 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY and the date show strong extra thickness, and IN GOD WE TRUST a lesser amount. Obverse Stage A has a light WSW/ENE scratch left of the back of the neck. On Stage B that scratch is weaker, a clash remnant shows at the front of the throat, and a SW/NE crack runs through the upper hair. On Stage C the scratch is gone and the hair crack is stronger. On the reverse, a crack runs down the right side of CENT's T and another through the lower right wheat kernels; Wexler lists these same markers for Stages A, B and C. Frank Baumann submitted Stage A, Brian Ribar Stage B and James C. Moreland Stage C. CONECA lists it as 3-O-VI, Coppercoins as 1955P-1DO-003 and Crawford as CDDO-004. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
