1955 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

1955-D WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1955-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Two extra eyelids show to the south. Wexler's comments add that the die also carries a very minor tilted (rotated) RPM with split serifs, judged too minor to list. Obverse markers: a gouge (dot) near the lower opening of the date's first 5; a NNE/SSW scratch southeast of the mint mark; a long scratch heading NNE from the second 5; vertical scratches heading north from LIBERTY's IB; a SW/NE scratch well under LIBERTY's TY; a horizontal gouge at the rim over IN, joined above the I by a diagonal gouge; diagonal scratches through the UST of TRUST; and light vertical scratches at the front of the neck. Reverse markers: light vertical scratches through and below the E and P of E PLURIBUS; a gouge (dot) and mostly vertical scratches to the right wheat tip's left; a diagonal scratch heading SE from the top of ONE's E; heavy scratches between CENT's N and T; mostly vertical scratches above UNITED's U and N; a long, mostly vertical scratch heading north from the upper left edge of AMERICA's M; a vertical scratch through the lower right side of STATES' E; and a vertical scratch running south from the A of STATES through AMERICA's C. David Mulberry submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 3-O-IV and Coppercoins as 1955D-1DO-003.
