Description

1955-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1955-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows south of the normal one, and there is also doubling south of the left end of the crossbar of TRUST's first T. Obverse markers: a gouge heading NE from the top of the hair, below WE's E and TRUST's first T and between them; light diagonal scratches through the 19 of the date; a curving diagonal scratch that runs from the field through the 9's top left, the middle of the first 5 and the lower part of the second 5; a long scratch heading SE from the front of the hair curl; a vertical scratch heading north from the top of LIBERTY's R; light diagonal scratches under LIBERTY's T and Y; a curved gouge under LIBERTY's R; and a concentric scratch running across the bust truncation through VDB and to its right. Reverse markers: a vertical scratch rising into the E of E PLURIBUS from the left wheat tip; a light vertical scratch between and below PLURIBUS' B and U; a series of horizontal scratches between ONE's O and N; a diagonal scratch heading NE from the upper left wheat stalk's right edge; a long, mostly vertical scratch left of CENT's C; vertical and horizontal scratches between CENT's E and N; a series of diagonal scratches around CENT's T; vertical scratches left of UNITED's U; and NNE/SSW diagonal scratches through AMERICA's C and A.
