1955 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1955-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1955-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows south of the normal one. Obverse Stage A has a horizontal scratch under the date's first 5; a scratch heading northwest from the mint mark's upper left corner; a series of scratches heading southeast from the chin; a scratch heading ESE from the front of the eyebrow; a scratch heading northeast from the forehead; a diagonal scratch between GOD's G and O; and a series of diagonal scratches through LIBERTY's TY. Reverse Stage A has horizontal scratches through and below the RIBUS of PLURIBUS; many horizontal scratches through ONE's E and the ENT of CENT; a series of horizontal scratches within the lower opening of UNITED's N; and a horizontal scratch heading west from the right wheat stem's tip. On Stage B most of the markers on both sides can still be seen, though much weaker. John A. Wexler submitted Stages A and B. Coppercoins lists it as 1955D-1DO-004.
