1954 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

Characterized by medium spread with weak hubbing on TRUST, this 1954-D Lincoln Wheat Cent doubled die obverse reflects a hubbing impression where less than full pressure was applied, resulting in a distinctive spread that is broader than typical light doubling yet lacks the crispness of a fully seated hub. Die markers are cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1828 DMR-008 across three documented stages: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B featuring a die crack on the shoulder at mid die state with the reverse also at mid die state, and Stage C where the die crack extends to the lapel at late-to-mid die state with the reverse also at late-to-mid die state. The progressive extension of the shoulder crack into the lapel provides a clear chronological sequence for die state identification. The 1954-D Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck in large quantities at Denver during the final years of the Wheat Cent design, and the weak hubbing characteristic distinguishes DDO-002 from stronger doubled dies in the series.
