1953 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1953-S WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid lies SE of the primary one. Obverse markers: a long, very strong dent at the rim over GOD, which Wexler thinks probably came from the tilted hub or die; several diagonal scratches at the 19 of the date, under the chin, and left of the top of the head; and several nearly vertical scratches just NE of LIBERTY's Y. Reverse markers: a short horizontal scratch between the middles of PLURIBUS' I and B; a small gouge (dot) just SW of CENT's N; and a short but strong scratch running north from the lower right of UNITED's E. David Mulberry submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
