1953 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1953 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows south of the normal one. Obverse markers: a series of vertical scratches heading north from the bridge of the nose and the upper forehead; a long crack running from the rim into the back of the head, to the left of IN's I; a series of concentric scratches through IN's N and GOD's G; light horizontal scratches between WE's E and TRUST's first T; and horizontal concentric scratches through the tops of TRUST's R and U. Reverse markers: vertical scratches around the left wheat tip; light diagonal scratches through most of PLURIBUS; a series of diagonal scratches NE of the right wheat tip; vertical scratches above and between ONE's O and N; horizontal scratches within the upper opening of ONE's N; a nearly vertical scratch within the lower opening of CENT's C; and a series of nearly vertical scratches through OF and UNITED's U and N. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
