1953 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1953 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The IBERTY of LIBERTY is spread to the north. Obverse markers: a short scratch heading NE from the lower right of the 9; parallel SSW-NNE scratches between the bow tie and the underside of the chin; and a short SW-NE scratch right of the bow tie. Reverse markers: a scratch heading north from the lower right of ONE's E; a scratch heading SW from the bottom of CENT's T; a nearly horizontal scratch above UNITED's D and the STA of STATES; and parallel WNW-ESE scratches above the NITE of UNITED. Paul Edwards submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-IV. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
