1952 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1952 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1952 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The spread is clockwise (CW) from a pivot at 7:00 and shows on TRUST's letters and the date's 2. Obverse Stage A has a clash mark running north from the upper right end of the bow tie to the beard. Stage B adds a short scratch heading SW from the lower left of LIBERTY's R, a crack heading NE from the rim at 7:00 through the shoulder, and a very heavy crack heading NE out of the hair over the ear. Reverse Stage A has a SW-NE scratch above CENT's C and several SW-NE scratches running from the bottom of the inside of that C. On Stage B those are gone; a large chip sits on the lower T of CENT, and a small gouge lies between the tops of STATES' T and E. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V and Coppercoins as 1952-1DO-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
