Description

A combination variety on the Lincoln Wheat Cent, WDDO-003 pairs a doubled die obverse showing an extra eyelid northeast of the main eyelid with a repunched mintmark independently cataloged as WRPM-017 in the Wexler RPM Files. Obverse die markers include a short, nearly horizontal die scratch just east of center of the ear, a die gouge dot in the field above the R in LIBERTY, and a short but strong die gouge running diagonally near the vest to the west of the upper mintmark. No significant reverse markers have been noted. The extra eyelid is a diagnostically compelling feature, as it falls in an area where collectors naturally examine Lincoln's portrait detail, making it discoverable during routine inspection.
