1952-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

Denver's counterpart to the Philadelphia DDO-001, the 1952-D Jefferson Nickel DDO-001 shows light spread on LIBERTY, the five-pointed star, and the date, confirmed through die markers UVC-1752 and DMR-007. The Denver Mint's D mintmark appears on the reverse to the right of Monticello, in the standard position used from the series' inception in 1938 through 1964. Light spread across all three primary obverse pickup points indicates a hub displacement pattern that produced uniform, subtle doubling across the lower-left obverse field of Felix Schlag's design. The 1952-D nickel was struck in standard copper-nickel composition during a period of steady circulating coinage demand in the post-war economy. UVC-1752 places this die within a well-documented sequence, and DMR-007 provides the supplementary die characteristic reference needed for confirmation. Collectors comparing the 1952-D DDO-001 against the Philadelphia counterpart (1952 DDO-001, UVC-873/DMR-003) will note that both share the light spread classification and three-element pattern, but the distinct die markers confirm entirely separate dies from different mint facilities.
