Description

A proof-only doubled die obverse, the 1951 Washington Quarter VDDO-006 exhibits a light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST. Proof coins were struck exclusively at Philadelphia using specially prepared dies and polished planchets, receiving multiple strikes for full relief with mirror fields. That a doubled die appears on a proof issue is notable — the proof die preparation involved its own hubbing sequence, and any misalignment between impressions could produce doubling just as on a business-strike die. VarietyVista assigns provisional codes UVC-0??? and DMR-0??, with the question marks indicating formal catalog numbers have not been finalized — suggesting this variety awaits additional specimens for full classification. Stage B is the only confirmed die stage, showing a die gouge in front of Washington's eye at mid-die-state, with the reverse also in MDS.
