1951 Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1951 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951 Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The lips show a minor eastward spread. On the obverse, a small gouge lies right of GOD's D, and another small gouge sits left of the chin. On the reverse, a small gouge lies north of PLURIBUS's first U, and a circular pattern of scratches is easiest to see on the left half. David Mulberry submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. The entry's comments point out that many 'hot lips' Roosevelt dimes were delisted as abrasion doubling, while this and the other 1951 listing are much slighter and subtly different, resembling the hub doubling Wexler recorded on the 1955 doubled master die. The commenter wants to see an example in hand before reaching a decision.
