1951 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1951-D WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows southeast of the normal one. Obverse markers: a large gouge to the right of the nose, near its top; light concentric scratches in a series across the date area; a short but heavy gouge south of the chin; a vertical scratch ahead of the chin; a series of diagonal field scratches right of the forehead; light parallel scratches heading SSE from the lower right edge of TRUST's S; and a series of light concentric scratches on the lower lapel and shoulder fold. Reverse markers: a light vertical scratch beside the left wheat tip, on its right; a long scratch heading south from the second U of UNUM; areas of die damage within the lower opening of ONE's O; light concentric scratches through the O and N of ONE; and, rising north from the upper part of CENT's E, a short gouge and a separate light scratch.
