1951 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-012

Description

1951-D WDDO-012 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows southeast of the normal one. Obverse markers: diagonal scratches heading SE from the chin; a vertical scratch running beneath the chin to the front of the bow tie; diagonal scratches in front of the mouth and nose; vertical scratches to the right of the forehead; a series of gouges around TRUST's R; nearly vertical scratches through LIBERTY; and a crack running north onto the back of the bust, to the left of VDB. Reverse markers: a strong diagonal gouge to the right of the upper part of ONE's E; light diagonal scratches between the tops of CENT's N and T; vertical concentric scratches through UNITED's U; concentric scratches through and above the TES of STATES; and a diagonal scratch joining the lower A and M of AMERICA. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
