1951 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-011

Description

1951-D WDDO-011 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The description Wexler gives is D/D Tilted, a turned secondary D; the die is also a repunched mint mark, which Wexler's RPM files number 1951-D 1¢ WRPM-100. Obverse markers: a series of light scratches heading SE from the bow tie down the front of the lower bust, left of the date's 1; a small hook-like gouge running north from the top of the 9; a scratch heading SE from the mouth; whisker-like scratches running roughly SE from under the nose tip; a strong, mostly E-W scratch between the S and T of TRUST; a long SW-NE scratch running parallel to the back of the bust, below LIBERTY's TY; and many NW-SE scratches through the BERTY of LIBERTY. Reverse markers: E-W scratches through PLURIBUS and below it; many mostly E-W scratches in the field NE of CENT's C; a long scratch that leaves the lower left wheat stalk heading ENE through OF and the AM of AMERICA, ending in the lower part of the first S of STATES; and overlapping scratches running two ways through and above the TES of STATES.
