1951 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

1951-D WDDO-007 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid sits just south of the primary one. The same obverse die carries a repunched mint mark that Wexler lists as WRPM-078. John Wexler had listed that mint mark as OMM #2 in the days before his original files passed to CONECA, and it first appeared as RPM#15 in The RPM Book by Wexler and Miller, published in 1983. On the obverse, a scratch lies low on the front of the vest, south of the 1. On the reverse, a strong scratch crosses the right wheat stem and runs northeast to a point right of AMERICA's second A. Joe Rizdy submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references for the doubled eyelid, but other catalogs list the mint mark as an over mint mark: Breen numbers it 2202, CONECA calls it OMM #2, Cherrypickers lists FS-01-1951D-502 (021.52), and Coppercoins 1951D-1OM-002.
