Description

1951-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows as an extra eyelid southeast of the normal one. The obverse is an RPM as well, listed in Wexler's files as 1951-D 1¢ WRPM-104. Obverse markers: a light diagonal scratch in the field well north of LIBERTY's T; a small gouge (dot) to the right of TRUST's U, near its top; a light crack running mostly north from the top of the ear, met by a second crack running east into the forehead; a light crack heading north from the lapel's upper left edge; and a crack crossing westward over the V of VDB, then turning NW through the back of the bust. Reverse markers: a gouge (dot) SSW of PLURIBUS' P; a gouge (dot) within the opening of ONE's O; a short scratch heading north from the upper diagonal of UNITED's N; and light vertical scratches through the second T of STATES.
