1951 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 / DDO-001

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under its marker codes UVC-1796 and DMR-047, the 1951-D DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1951-D Lincoln wheat cent. Both catalogs give the Cherrypickers number FS-101 (21.4), which Wexler writes FS-01-1951D-101 (021.4). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties calls it a strong Class V counterclockwise spread from a pivot at about 6:00, showing on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST and on LIBERTY. Obverse stage A has a long SSW scratch from the upper left of the T in LIBERTY; by stage B heavy abrasion of the die has removed it. Reverse stage A has a scratch linking the upper left of the O in ONE with the first U in PLURIBUS; in reverse stage B it is gone and a short crack rises north from the left wheat ear's top. Frank Baumann submitted it. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V and Coppercoins as 1951D-1DO-001. VarietyVista, without naming a reporter, describes a medium spread on IN GOD WE TRUST. Its stage A has a strong scratch running ENE from the forehead, with both sides in an early die state; a middle stage B is unconfirmed; and in stage C both sides are late.
