1949 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1949 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1949 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows to the south. Obverse markers: a series of gouges (dots) above the date's 9; a gouge (dot) below the 4; a gouge between the upper E of WE and TRUST's first T; a vertical scratch between TRUST's S and T; a tiny gouge below the right edge of the crossbar of TRUST's last T; and a gouge touching the neck. Reverse markers: a vertical scratch joining the left wheat tip to the E of EPU; a series of vertical scratches running north above ONE's O; a series of vertical scratches joining PLURIBUS's U to ONE's N; a diagonal scratch between UNITED's D and STATES' first S; and a diagonal scratch running southwest from UNITED's N. John Shields submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
