1949 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1949-D WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1949-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows east of the normal one. Obverse markers: innumerable scratches, mostly NE/SW, across the obverse, and concentric scratches near the rim between 4 and 8 o'clock and between 10 and 12 o'clock. Reverse markers: innumerable mostly vertical scratches across the reverse; NE/SW scratches inside the lower O of ONE and below its right side; a scratch running northeast from the top of CENT's T to the right leg of UNUM's M; a long scratch from the bottom left side of ONE's E to the top left tip of CENT's T, continuing out the vertical bar into the field right of the T; and crisscrossing scratches forming X shapes in OF. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
