1949 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1949-D WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1949-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. IN GOD WE TRUST shows a spread toward the center from a weak hubbing. Obverse markers: a small gouge high between GOD's O and D; several scratches extending southwest from the bottom of GOD's D; and a SW-to-NE scratch through the mint mark. The mint mark itself is a minor repunched mint mark, a D/D Tilted (Rotated) listed as WRPM-043. Reverse markers: a NNE scratch from the top of STATES' A; small gouges above the left end of the bottom bar of CENT's E and between the bottoms of CENT's E and N; and a strong diagonal gouge above the top right side of CENT's T. David Mulberry submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
