1946 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1946-S WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The letters of LIBERTY and IN show a strong spread. Obverse Stage A, with a Trumpet Tail S mint mark: several scratches running north from LIBERTY's Y; a scratch extending north from its R; and a NNW scratch from the middle of the nose. On Obverse Stage B the die is heavily abraded and only the scratches from the Y remain. Reverse Stage A: a southward scratch from the left wheat ear's top right side; a scratch running south from the lower right of CENT's C; and a vertical scratch between the S and T of STATES. On Reverse Stage B the die is heavily abraded, and only the scratch from the upper left wheat remains. Bill Wilson submitted Stage A and Brian Ribar Stage B. CONECA lists it as 3-O-II-C and Coppercoins as 1946S-1DO-005. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
