1946 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-006

Description

1946-S WDDO-006 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. IN GOD WE shows a strong spread toward the rim, which is also counterclockwise on the letters of WE, and LIBERTY's letters show extra thickness. The mint mark is the Trumpet Tail style and is also repunched: an S/S East, which the Wexler RPM Files carry as 1946-S 1¢ WRPM-016. Obverse markers: three scratches heading SW and SSW from under the ear; a short SW-to-NE scratch right of the upper lip; and two parallel NNW-to-SSE scratches right of the beard, well north of the date's 1. Reverse marker: a gouge under the right side of CENT's C. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 8-O-II+V, Crawford as CDDO-002, and Coppercoins as 1946S-1DO-004. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
