1946 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-037

Description

Thirty-seventh DDO for the 1946 Philadelphia Wheat Cent, continuing a catalog sequence that ranks among the deepest for any cent date. Philadelphia's postwar cent production at a rate approaching one billion cents per year generated the die volume necessary to produce this many documented hub doubling events. Wexler Variety ID: 1946 1¢ WDDO-037 is cataloged without die markers or competing cross-references. The concentration of DDO varieties in the 1946 date has attracted the attention of die variety research organizations beyond the Wexler Team, though no parallel attributions have been established for this specific entry. At position thirty-seven, the doubling characteristics for WDDO-037 fall in the range where careful examination protocol becomes essential: consistent magnification power, controlled directional lighting, and systematic comparison against reference photographs for adjacent catalog entries that may present similar but distinct spread patterns. The first postwar year's return to normalcy in Mint operations did not, evidently, bring any improvement in hubbing alignment precision.
