Struck in the first full postwar year, still in the wartime 95% copper, 5% zinc alloy, the 1946 Lincoln Wheat Cent marks a transition in the series. Denver struck 315,690,000 cents that year, the Mint's postwar production surge, still in the wartime 95% copper, 5% zinc formulation; the tin-bearing bronze last used in 1942 returned in 1947.
