1946 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-024

Description

1946-D WDDO-024 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The lower eye shows a spread to the west. The obverse also carries a repunched mint mark, a D/D Tilted (Rotated) that the Wexler RPM Files list as 1946-D 1¢ WRPM-065. Obverse Stage A: an arcing scratch from the front curl's top to TRUST's U, on its left side; a gouge on the head; gouges above the ear; a gouge behind the ear running south; a gouge that starts right of the upper ear, runs east, and ends above the eye; a gouge just under the eye running SE; a scratch above LIBERTY's Y running north; and a gouge on the back that runs south, then east to the lapel. Obverse Stage B adds two small gouges on top of the forehead. The reverse is also doubled, cataloged in the Wexler Doubled Die Files under 1946-D 1¢ WWHR-001, with doubling on the lower left wheat stem and stalk. Reverse Stage A: a scratch in the gap from the upper left wheat tip to the E of E PLURIBUS; eastward scratches from the lower left wheat to UNITED's U, both high and low; and a light scratch at the inside base of UNITED's U running south. Reverse Stage B adds a chip on the right edge of the left wheat, left of the upper U of UNITED. Brian Ribar submitted Stage A and Paul Funaiole Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
