Description

Verified by the Wexler Team, the 1945 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-007 presents an extremely close spread directed toward the center of the hub, manifesting as subtle but confirmable doubling on the letters of GOD. The tight, inward character of this spread places it among the class of varieties whose doubling is best observed under magnification at a consistent light angle rather than at a glance, requiring collectors to examine the serifs and interior counters of each affected letter carefully. Die markers make mechanical attribution straightforward once the coin is in hand: light die scratches run in a northwest-to-southeast orientation under GOD, a die scratch extends eastward from the lower ear of the portrait, and a light diagonal die scratch is present beneath the Y in LIBERTY. No significant reverse die markers are noted. The 1945 Philadelphia cent was produced in the final year of World War II copper conservation practices, and the wheat cent series as a whole closed thirteen years later, giving the 1945 date a transitional historical position within a beloved American series.
