1945 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-024 / DDO-013

Description

Cataloged as FS-101 in the Fivaz-Stanton Cherrypickers' Guide, DDO-013 on the 1945 Lincoln wheat cent, which Wexler numbers WDDO-024, shows strong spread on the date and LIBERTY along with extra thickness on Lincoln's eye, ear, beard and tie. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number FS-01-1945-101. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a southward spread on the letters of LIBERTY, the date, Lincoln's eyelid, bowtie and lower ear, with slight doubling on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse a short gouge sits right of the upper D in GOD, WNW-ESE scratches run just over the head, and north-south scratches cross the 5 of the date. On the reverse two scratches cross the lower A in STATES, parallel SSW-NNE scratches lie between the TE of UNITED and the E of CENT, a scratch runs NNW from the upper left of the E in CENT, a SW-NE scratch lies right of the T in CENT, and a scratch crosses the lower US of PLURIBUS and reaches the right dot. John A. Wexler submitted it. CONECA lists it as 13-O-IV+VIII and Coppercoins as 1945P-1DO-009. VarietyVista credits Chris Clauson with the report. Under its marker codes UVC-1689 and DMR-030, early stage A and late stage C are unconfirmed, and in stage B both sides are in a middle die state.
