Primary repunched mintmark variety for the 1944-S Mercury Dime, RPM-001 exhibits an S/S West displacement where the San Francisco mintmark was initially positioned too far west before receiving its corrective final impression. As the first-listed RPM for this date, it typically represents either the most prominent or the earliest-discovered repunching among the documented varieties. San Francisco struck 49,490,000 dimes in 1944, wartime production that kept the traditional 90% silver composition even as other denominations underwent emergency alloy changes.
