1944-S Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-023

Description

An extra eyelid can be found below the normal eyelid. Die Markers: Large S mint mark. The obverse of this variety is also an RPM that is listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1944-S 1¢ WRPM-001. It is an S/S/S East & Serifs. N/S die scratches through the BE of LIBERTY. Die scratch running south from the neck to the top of the bowtie. Long die scratch from the bottom of the bowtie running south ending to the left and below the date. Reverse: N/S die scratch at the lower left inside of the N in CENT. Diagonal die scratch is seen inside the upper N of UNITED. A small die gouge on the left side and tucked under the upper arm of the T of UNITED.
