1944 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1944-S WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1944-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. One extra eyelid lies east of the normal eyelid, and another lies above it. The obverse also carries a repunched mint mark, an S/S West that is WRPM-005 in the Wexler Files and RPM #5 in the CONECA Files. Obverse markers: a scratch extending WSW from the top of the I in IN, and a short scratch extending NE from the I's center right side. Reverse markers: a scratch extending NE from the upper right of UNITED's U through the top left corner of its N, and two parallel scratches running south from the center of the first S in STATES through the E of AMERICA. James C. Moreland submitted the variety, and Brian Ribar took the photos for the Wexler Files. CONECA lists it as 3-O-IV.
