Description

With light spread on LIBERTY and IN, this seventeenth doubled die obverse for the 1944 Lincoln Wheat Cent documents hub doubling concentrated on two obverse inscriptions that lie in different areas of the die surface. VarietyVista's technical classification assigns UVC-3478 and DMR-022, with three die stages: Stage A confirming obverse and reverse at early die state, Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The EDS confirmation for Stage A means specimens from the earliest production period have been verified, when die wear was minimal and the doubling diagnostics appeared at their most distinct. Light spread on LIBERTY — the primary inscription along the right side of Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait — and on the IN of IN GOD WE TRUST — positioned above the portrait — indicates a hubbing shift that affected these geographically separated text elements simultaneously.
