Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDO-015 with die marker references UVC-3470 and DMR-020, this doubled die obverse variety was struck on a 1944 Lincoln Wheat cent. The 1944 cent was produced in shell case copper composition of 95% copper and 5% zinc, using recycled brass military shell casings after the 1943 zinc-coated steel cent experiment, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19 mm diameter and a plain edge. The doubling on DDO-015 manifests as a medium spread from a weak hubbing, visible on the lower Y of LIBERTY, the lower ear, the upper eye, and the vest area below Lincoln's tie.
